A very nice nautical compass in a copper casing. It comes from a ship that has gone the ship breakers. It had caught fire. This is visible on the bottem of the compass. The top of the compass has wonderful survived this disaster. It is difficult to date the compass, but to me, the other copper housing looks at least 100 years old. A small petrol lamp on the side would have illuminated the compass on its voyages. The compass has a manufacters name and has been checked by the German goverment in 1987. The compass itself has no date and is made from a composite material as other casing. Thats why the bottem of the compass looks melted away.
The price reflects its condition – keep in mind that you can only see the damage from the bottem.
